| Sending text messages (SMS) via email
If you know the correct email domain sending text messages (AKA SMS) to a cell phone via email is simple. I have listed the email domains for the major US carriers below. The recipient may be charged for the text message.
cellnumber in the email addresses below
is the recipient’s 10 digit telephone number
Cellular Telephone Company |
Email Domain |
AT&T Wireless |
cellnumber@txt.att.net |
Verizon Wireless |
cellnumber@vtext.com |
T-Mobile |
cellnumber@tmomail.net |
Sprint |
cellnumber@messaging.sprintpcs.com |
Nextel |
cellnumber@messaging.nextel.com |
US Cellular |
cellnumber@email.uscc.net |
Alltel |
cellnumber@message.alltel.com |
Virgin Mobile |
cellnumber@vmobl.com |
If you do not know the recipient's cell phone carrier teleflip.com provides a way to email a text message. teleflip.com requires that you sign up for an account and disclose your cell phone number to them.
Caution is warranted using this type of service. I am averse to giving companies my cell phone number lest they sell it to a telemarketer or an SMS spammer.
